R’n’B singer Craig David headlined the first ever Asia Mobile Awards as part of the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress, held in the Ballroom of the Venetian Macao last night.

The awards were separated into five categories including mobile entertainment, mobile advertising, best mobile social networking service, best mobile device and the mobile innovation award.

The mobile entertainment category was divided into two sections, the first being the ‘best made-for-mobile game’, which was won by Gameloft for Real Football 2007. The ‘best made-for-mobile music service’ was won by PCCW mobile Hong Kong for MOOV on Mobile.

Meanwhile, the best mobile advertising award went to the combination of Zad Mobile, Smart and Pepsi for their ‘1-in-5 Panalo Summer Promo.

The best mobile social networking service had, among its nominees, Hutchison Telecom (HK) ‘ShowMe!’ and Hong Kong CSL Limited’s ‘FreeBlog’ although the award went to Buzz City’s ‘myGamma.’

The award for best mobile broadband handset/device went to Motorola Razr K2 V9 in a category where Samsung had two nominees in their SGH-F500 AND SGH-U700.

Finally, the mobile innovation award, which was only decided upon yesterday morning and that’s awarded only to start-up companies who have to present their ideas to a panel, was won by Consilient, a group that focuses on consumer applications and services.

A special recognition award was presented to the LG Group for their LG Shine 3G phone.

A video featuring martial arts superstar Jackie Chan was also presented where he spoke about his collaboration with Wong Yuk Long, one of Hong Kong’s most influential comic artists.

Also performing at the Mobile Awards was Taiwanese mandarin pop singer Elva Hsiao.

The GSMA Asia Congress will continue until tomorrow.
