Jackie Chan uses mobile platform for Fantasia comic

Martial arts superstar Jackie Chan can now be seen on your mobile phone screen for the first time with the pilot of an animated cartoon.

Shown at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress currently taking place at the Venetian Macao until Friday, the three-part cartoon adventure is titled ‘Jackie Chan Fantasia.’

It features the Hong Kong-based actor and was created by Mr Wong Yuk Long, one of Hong Kong’s most influential comic and cartoon artists, and founder of Jade Dynasty Group, an animations studio in China.

‘Jackie Chan Fantasia’ features the fictional adventures of Jackie Chan, who is called upon to save the world by rescuing Dr Wong, a scientist kidnapped by a nefarious villain, who wants to conquer the world.

Dr Wong has invented a technology ‘Thunder Energiser’ integrating seven extraterrestrial elements which represents at once a quantum advance in environmentally friendly energy and in weapons technology.

Each adventure draws upon the the virtues of ancient heroes and their strength of character.

“Through the miracle of this innovative technology, I can overcome the limits of space and time in the real world, and now so too can my cartoon alter ego,” said Jackie Chan.

“We look forward to working ever more closely with innovators in the mobile industry, to discover and realise the enormous potential of this new medium that is already in the hands of more than 3 billion users today.”

The pilot let’s mobile industry executives in Macau from all over the world, download and view on Sony Ericsson phones at the event, the animated exploits of the martial arts actor in a world first.

The production of ‘Jackie Chan Fantasia’ embodies a unique combination of illustration, story telling and technology.

“Jackie Chan is not only an icon in Asia but has enjoyed huge popularity around the world, and the GSMA is pleased to offer the Congress a platform to showcase these cartoons on mobile phones for the first time anywhere in the world,” said Bill Gajda, Chief Marketing Officer at the GSMA.

“The convergence of the entertainment and mobile industries is rapidly changing the way that multimedia is distributed and consumed, and this is a great example of a content format that will appeal to millions of users in Asia and throughout the world.”

Mr Wong Yuk Long said, “I am excited to be involved in this breakthrough production with Jackie Chan as the creation of this cartoon series is a powerful synergy of animation and story-telling which introduces traditional virtues of various regions around the world.”

He added that ‘Jackie Chan Fantasia’ is a perfect combination of traditional and modern themes including a variety of different cultures that both Jackie and I believe will strike a chord with cellphone users around the world.”

Jade Dynasty Group’s local market share in terms of sales of Chinese home-grown comics and Japanese translated comics in Hong Kong is over 50 percent.

The group owns over 100 comic titles and has accumulated over 10 years’ experience in the comics industry.

Jackie Chan is one of the best-known names in kung fu and action films worldwide and is acclaimed for his acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, use of improvised weapons ad innovative stunts.

He has appeared in over 100 films and has received stars on the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
