More than a dozen traffic deaths recorded this year

The number of traffic accidents between January and September 2007 resulted in 13 deaths out of 3,410 casualties, with the number of traffic accident cases increasing by 2 percent, to 9,874 over the same period in 2006., according to figures released by the Centre for Statistics and Census Service.
Meanwhile, the number of licensed vehicles totalled 173,020 by the end of September this year, an increase of 8 percent over last year, of which 52 percent (90,651) were motorcycles and 41 percent (70,373) were light private cars.
The new registration of vehicles grew by 23 percent year-on-year to 16,601 in the first nine months of 2007, with motorcycles and light vehicles accounting for 62 percent and 35 percent respectively.
Traffic flow between Macau and the Mainland rose by 15 percent to 2,804,743 vehicle trips.
The major passage of 81 percent was taken up by the border gate while the Cotai checkpoint recorded  528,888 vehicle trips.
Commercial flight movements at the airport totalled 36,911, up by 4 percent over the first nine months of 2006. Taiwan, China and Mainland China were the major routes that accounted for 45 percent and 34 percent respectively. At the Outer Harbour, helicopter flights between Macau and Hong Kong grew by 4 percent year-on-year to 12,690, while 2,265 helicopter flights were recorded between Macau and Mainland China.
Passenger transport by sea between Macau and Hong Kong rose by 9 percent compared with the first nine months of 2006 to 65,119 ferry trips; passenger ferry operating between Macau and Mainland China totalled 12,650 trips, up by 15 percent.
The number of mobile telephone and fixed line users reached 732,329 and 177,945, up by 19 percent and 1 percent respectively over the same period last year. Regarding internet services, number of subscribers increased to 117,129 and the cumulative hour of usage reached 127.4 million hours in the first nine months of 2007, up by 14 percent and 47 percent respectively year-on-year.
