Mozambique won the prize for best booth at the recent Lusofonia Festival which ended last Sunday. The winners were announced during a dinner by the Provisional Municipal Council of Macau (IACM) at The Hotel Grand Emperor last night.
The second and third prize winners were Goa Guinea-Bissau respectively, with each winner receiving a plaque as a prize.
Asked her opinion on the win, Ms Helena Brandao, President of the Mozambique Association said, “we wanted to show the main fauna in Mozambique,” naming Gorongosa National Park as a place of interest, other than beaches.
“Some years ago we had almost no animals but since then an American foundation helped to get a project going and now we have several ecosystems in the park,” she said.
“Now if somebody wants to go there, there are accommodation and everything and they are trying to give some jobs to people from there,” she added.
The festival’s sponsors, incuding CEM, the Macao Water Supply Co., New Century Hotel and Smartone received commemorative plaques in the shape of the IACM building, which was handed out by Mr Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office. Each group that took part in the festival also received the same plaque, handed out by several key members including Mr Tam Vai Man, Director of IACM.
